Look Your Best Offline & On: Makeup Tips for the Professional

If any of you ladies (and gentlemen) are going to be in the San Francisco Bay Area this summer, come join me in July at an upcoming Future Women Leaders (FWL) event. Given that I’ve met so many women and men who ask me about personal appearances for the workplace, I thought it would help some of you to get some ideas that will work with your needs. From the workplace to daily wear – join me and I’d be happy to provide you guidelines and tips that will last you a lifetime. Hope to see you there! Here are the details on the event:

Look Your Best Offline & On: Makeup Tips for the Professional

Date: July 20, 2010
Time: 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. PT
Location: To be determined. Stay tuned…

Ever wondered how to wear your makeup if you’re a speaker at a conference event? How much makeup is too much for that job interview you’ve worked so hard to secure? How do you keep your skin healthy when you constantly travel for work and eat hotel food-like substances?
Sheila Patel, professional makeup artist, understands many of these issues and knows that not everyone is able to hire an image consultant or had formal guidelines on applying makeup for different occasions – professional and personal. At this exclusive FWL event, you’ll learn how to apply makeup for:
• The workplace
• Job interviews
• Board meetings, speeches, and recorded speaking engagements
• Photographs used for the web and print

Please contact Shradha Balakrishnan, FWL VP of Outreach, if you have any questions: outreach@futurewomenleaders.net

Makeup for Quincinearas & Sweet Sixteens.

Let us face it. Who wants to acknowledge that that our babies are coming of age? They are maturing to be beautiful young women and these coming of age soirees are a celebration of just that.

As a make up artist, I believe that you have to be subtle in the way you present these young ladies. They are still young, innocent, even though this is rapidly fading in our current world.

A lot of these celebrations involve hanging out with girlfriends and family so the makeup look cannot be diva-esque.

The makeup these young girls are wearing on such an importan has to have a certain softness and purity.

Even though the foundation has to have good coverage, I would make the look glowier with a more translucent look, celebrating the age at which these girls are at.

The blush would be in peachy pink hues and the eye shadow fairly minimalist. A shiny lip gloss to finish the look. Hair would be in soft curls to finish the princess look.

And We’re Live!

Yesterday was the official launch of my startup Website, “Sheila Patel :: Makeup Artist.” I had the chance to do a sit-down interview with XuanThu of XuanThu Pham Marketing Communications. To learn more about me and what I do, you can access the interview here.

Thanks for visiting and I hope to hear from you soon!

Spring Ahead with Sheila

In keeping with the somber state of affairs as far as the economy goes, (believe it or not it, actually affects makeup trends), the look of the season is “minimalist” this spring. I personally love gloss on the eyelids in a peachy hue. This paired with a coral color for lips would make an amazing pairing.

Lashes Lashes Lashes. I cannot emphasize enough that this is what makes or breaks how you look. You could have the most amazing makeup, but without a good, well-emphasized lash structure, fake or real, you will not be saved.

One thing you must remember is that if you have played up your eyes with beautiful shadow work, play down your lips and vice versa. Too much of anything will just make everything shout.

One of my other favorite trends for spring is the ponytail. Worn in many different ways, this is definitely the way to go for many active women who cannot spend too much time on their hair, but still like to look chic. This also compliments a point that I made earlier about lashes. The ponytail will allow for your face – and eyes – to stand out.

I love the tousled look that Hayden Panetierres has, and the sleek pullback of Carmen Electra looks great for an evening out. And now my last point, fake tans are great, but beware of the red lobster look. Try the self tanners on a small patch of skin and see what works for you. You want to make sure you have the right hue and that the ingredients don’t generate a reaction, walking away with red, patchy hives. If there is anything you need to remember: less is more.

What Your Makeup Says About You

Dear friends,

Makeup is a quintessential way for a woman to express herself. Whether it is a soft innocent look or a more dramatic, sexy one, the way one applies their makeup speaks to the onlooker in ways that one can never accurately express in words.

One of the reasons why I became a makeup artist is because I enjoy being a woman. I enjoy helping women (and men) feel reinvigorated and energized from just a subtle dash of color or use of a specific technique. You don’t have to look too far to recognize the things that are creative and beautiful: fashion, design, dance, nature, or even writing – sensuality and identity can be expressed in so many ways. And makeup is simply one way of sharing that aspect of your personality.

Welcome and thank you for visiting my blog, “Making Faces.” Follow me as we delve into the amazing world of makeup and other beauty trends. Making Faces is not just a blog that talks about makeup, who’s wearing it, and what brands are best - it’s about you. The person that makes it all come alive.

Here’s to your beauty – inside and out,

Sheila Patel

A snippet from a Photo Shoot

We did a preliminary photo shoot, featuring models that I’ve applied makeup on. It was a beautiful and sunny day, and the girls’ smiles brought it all inside the room. You can view the video on my Facebook Page.
